Specialist Orthoptist | University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our small friendly service

The main base for this post will primarily be Westmorland General Hospital, with clinics also to be worked at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

There will be excellent opportunities for professional development.

You must have a Degree/Diploma in Orthoptics

We undertake a wide range of Orthoptic work, both adult and paediatric. As part of a multi professional team, you will be expected to actively participate and support the development of the Allied Health team within the wider Ophthalmology service. You will be expected to participate in regular audits and to assist in teaching and supervision, primarily of Orthoptic undergraduate students and graduate optometrists. We also assist in the training of nursing and Medical colleagues.

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner and able to manage their own caseload and initiate service development as agreed with the Orthoptic Lead

We operate from three main hospitals -Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
