As a nation the importance of decarbonisation has never been more clearer. Net Zero has established a legal requirement for all parts of our lives to consider what we can all do to reduce our carbon impacts. The electricity sector is a key enabler and has delivered a significant level of renewable generation onto the network, allowing other sectors to start moving in the right direction. However, there is more to be done. The electricity networks must connect more renewable generation in a shorter period of time than we have managed so far. This puts a greater strain on current policy frameworks that were developed for a different time. These policy frameworks must change, but the big question is to what and by when. This role allows you to play a leading part in identifying what reform is required, and to develop practical options that address these issues for the benefit of our stakeholders and the country.

To contribute to the delivery of the commercial business objectives of SSEN Transmission through managing the business’ engagement with long term industry reforms.

Assess any ongoing or upcoming long-term commercial policy reform which relate to those challenges and flag up if no reforms exist or are planned.
Identify any gaps or impacts and work with the Commercial Policy/Markets Managers in their team to develop policy positions, to address the issues, and gain approval for plans to work across industry and government to get those positions implemented.
Representative of SSEN Transmission in the ongoing development of industry policies, processes and procedures and the forums where these are discussed.
