IT Infrastructure Engineer | Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting position in the Servers and Storage workstream has arisen for an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join the team at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust.

Could you support up to 300 servers, manage the physical hardware of the local SAN, work with our hosting partners, all to ensure a high quality service to DHC’s 8000 strong work force operating from over 300 sites? Are you competent with the day to day administration of Microsoft Servers, VMware, data backup and retention? And would you like to be involved in the decisions being made to design DHC’s future server roadmap?

Reporting to the Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will join a productive and hardworking team and be responsible for the management of the Trust’s servers, its data, and the 8000 system users many of which will be using VPN services to connect remotely into the Trust systems.

Our move from on prem servers to hosted services starts now and you will be involved very much in this process, offering guidance, challenging decisions and implementing new ways of working. Experience in these fields will be very beneficial to this role.

To support the many and varied challenges facing the team, you will be tasked with reviewing some of today’s standard processes in order to find a better way to provide this service.

Your ultimate goal in this role is to improve the clinical service that we offer our patients.

This is a full time post with the opportunity for flexible remote working. Once fully trained there are On Call duties to undertake and overtime where available with an attractive enhanced pay! In order to meet the needs of the service and attend any IT emergencies, it is essential that you are a driver with use of a vehicle in order to travel around the county.

Working within the Infrastructure team, and alongside IT Service and Operations colleagues, experience of systems administration is therefore essential in:
• Windows server 2008 – 2022
• Active Directory User and Computer Management
• Group Policy Management
• VMWare
• Veeam
• Azure and Cloud services

Additional skills and knowledge include:
• Windows 10 and Windows 11
• Office365
• WAN / LAN and Wireless technologies
• Ability to understand and explain requirements and incidents to different audiences
• Knowledge of ICT infrastructure and critical application systems used within a complex organisation.
• Experience of documenting and communicating procedures, processes and support guides for a variety of audiences, demonstrating numeracy and literacy, and applying expert knowledge.
• A working knowledge of ITIL

An understanding of the NHS National Shared Tenancy and the HSCN networking services will be advantageous although not essential.

You will be a keen team player, who has the capability to problem solve, with strong experience and background in Server and Storage solutions.
