Design Technician

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s team looking after the 1,422km of trunk roads and associated 1501 bridges and structures under the Scottish Trunk Roads Network Management Contract for the North West of Scotland. The North West Unit stretches from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt through some of Scotland’s most scenic countryside.

We are looking for a Design Technician to join our design team dealing with Priority Defect Repairs to keep the trunk road network safe for all users. The role will also involve the design of repairs for defects that do not represent an immediate hazard to users.

Role includes:

Design, preparation of drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and Operations Instructions for the repair of priority defects.
Design, preparation of drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and Operations Instructions for repairing defects that do not represent an immediate hazard but have potential to develop quickly into priority defects.
Investigation, design, preparation of drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and Operations Instructions for repairing defects in response to complaints from Local Authorities, Community Councils, members of the public or others.
Comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate, if not already qualified to HNC or HND level, will be given the opportunity to study for these qualifications. Excellent IT and communications skills are essential along with a full driving license.
