This is a substantive 9 PA post based at Dorset County Hospital. There may also be the opportunity for a further 1 PA of community infection control work, for interested candidates.
The post holder will, with their 3 consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective clinical microbiology, virology and infection control service to the Trust and other users of the service.
You will have primary responsibility for one of three roles shared between the consultants on a rotational basis, namely infection control, antibiotic stewardship and laboratory lead. This would be negotiable in the first instance depending on the interests and experience of the appointee in conjunction with the current team members.

You will
• Work proactively with your consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive, high quality microbiology, virology & infection control service to the Trust.
• Help develop and strengthen the laboratory processes in our drive for continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of our services.
You will have
• CCT or equivalent in Infectious Diseases or Microbiology +/- Virology (for applicants wishing to be appointed as a Consultant )
• Clinical training and experience in Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship
• The ability to offer expert specialist clinical opinion on a range of problems relating to laboratory and clinical microbiology and infection control

The Trust’s Pathology services are centralised at Dorset County Hospital in purpose-built accommodation completed in 1987. The Pathology laboratories include the departments of Microbiology, Histopathology and Cytology, and Blood Sciences (combined Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories). The management arrangements within the department conform to the principles of Modernizing Pathology Services (2006) and Lord Carter report (2008).
DCH Pathology department is part of an integrated pathology service across the Dorset area, known as ‘One Dorset Pathology.’ The aim of integration is to enhance efficiency in the use of resources while providing a consistent, high quality service. We share the same Laboratory Information Management System and procurement pathways with our counterpart in the east of the county, University Hospitals Dorset Pathology department. Looking ahead to future collaborations, Dorset County Hospital will be part of the ‘South 6’ NHSI network.
The post holder will be a member of Care Group 4 in conjunction with the other pathology disciplines, Pharmacy, Mortuary, Healthcare Technology department & Research & Innovation
